Anybody here playing with the new Vray 1.1 yet? BRDF materials look interesting. I'll install once my rendering's finished.

mine wont install, theres a few problems i think with the installer for osx although a few PC problems cropping up also....they are working on it.

75 new features in it! some of the images and examples look awesome!

that renders never going to finish anyway.

I love the VrayProxy.. I now cam make a whole forest from 1 tree with the amount of ram from 1 tree. :):):):)

Peace,

PS: I did not had any problems installing it. WinXP and R11.

Object buffer and much improved compositing tag options at last :) The material library is amazing too. I think 1.1 has been worth the wait. thisrocks.gif

PS. Hope I don't crash my machine rolleyes.gif

yep, have you checked out the wood and concrete textures? some of them are awesome! Object buffer well handy now!

If you going to test out vray aswell as rendering your ice id go careful unless you have bucket loads of ram and running 64 bit, i managed to get my ram usage up to 6 gig yesterday, it will bomb if you dont have enough!!

I dont own vray but since the new AR module came out everyone has been saying how close AR and VRAY have got in terms of what results they give, would you say this has moved them apart again leaveing AR trailing?

question about the proxies. Do they really save ram? or are they just a referencing system like Xrefs? I know they would save ram on display but what about the rendering and does it also save rendering time?

HI,

yeah, its a demo project, and everything installed fine, no errors.

I'll check out the forums. I've used vray a lil on PC, and I hope its stable on OSX, since thats what I use most.

Thanks.

quote off the vray site

'a fast simple 1.3 billion tree scene in seconds!!!!!!'

that should show how fast! gi calculations are insanely fast, there is also an example of a tree with 2 000 000

polys, cloned 3000 times and renders in a few minutes and uses around a gig of ram i think

Make sure that in your render settings under the "General" tab you have checked "vray bridge" instead of "full render" for the render engine. Easy to miss if you didn't know to look for it there.

ok can anyone give me an actual use of it. Because everyone keeps quoting these marketing lines. And i never seen a video with it in use and realtime. Even in the example with tong he just quits after a while. Some of the guys from FORMAT3D http://www.evermotion.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=67369 say that they still needed 64bit to render these images/animations using vray proxy and they got times of 30mins for some frames also.
