Hi everyone,

This morning I had a little chit chat with my friend Pavel Zoch.
He told he had bought a new nice application "a sculpting application ala Zbrush"
Take a look at the link underneath. It is only $89 (introduction price)
http://www.3d-coat.com/index.html

Looks real cool...
Pavel is very enthusiastic about this application..

Peace,
Rich_Art.

as far as I know, you use C4D for the base mesh, export it to an OBJ into 3D_coat and sculp it. When done, export it to C4D (OBJ) and render...

looks cool but as far as i can see it doesn't export normal maps, and importing raw geometry means mucho ram required :|

hello
you are wrong, there are few very cool export options - you can find them in "baker tool" or normal export tool (baker looks better for me)

My first one test what I did

C4D render (normal maps + bump only - textures have been done in C4D-BP, they are not finished yet)

I gave up downloading after twenty minutes and 2% downloaded.
If in doubt, scream and shout.

Finally managed to download it.. first impressions are good, easy to go in and start tweaking, I don't know enough about ZBrush/Mudbox to be able to compare it though.

Cheers,
Brian

This seems really cool for the price. I assume it works quite well with C4D?

Cool and affordable competitor to more expensive Zbrush. Have to give this a try. Thanks for info.

I'll try the demo out. Just wanted to mention that Blender has a sculpt mode and Blender is free. You can do the base in Blender and do the sculpting there and then import it into C4D for lighting, BP, rendering etc. I've imported obj files from Blender into C4D before and works well, usually just have to scale the mesh up. Don't know how Blender compares to this but you can't beat that price. I believe when version 2.46 comes out that that will have normal map baking. Just wanted to mention that because someone said they didn't see a Mac version for 3D Coat and Blender is for Win, Mac and Linux. Either way you do it happy sculpting. :D

edit:Timelapse of sculpting in Blender. Looks like he is doing the Goblin from Spiderman.

sorry to zombiefy this old thread but I really wanted to say, Ive been messing around with the 3D coat alpha and Im so impressed! Its now got voxel sculpting and layers and some other great new tools including a great retopology tool so that you can make nice game/animation quality versions of your voxel/poly sculpted model and bring it back into c4d with baked maps from 3D coat.

heres one of my latest experiments, no basemesh haha, just a sphere and then each element is on a different layer so I can edit armour seperate from the head etc :)
