hi,

I'm spending some time on better learning GI.
I made a little scene to play around with.
The image without table took 2m27sec to render but when I put the table and the flower it takes 2 HOURS and 27 min...
I didn't change the settings...

Could someone explain me why there's such a huge difference...?

(I want to add some more attributes and increase the quality for the final render, but if each object increase the render time it will take me a week to render... The image without the spere (AVANCE05.jpg) is the quality I want to preserve for this final render..)

I work on a Mac Pro:
Processor: 2 x 2,8 Ghz Quand-Core intel Xeon
Memory: 4GB 800Hz DDR2 FB-DIMM

Thanks,
=servaas=

what is the "Ray Depth" in your render settings?

try decreasing the "Ray Depth" and "Shadow Depth" to about 6

there in "Render Settings/Options"

Ditto what data said and put a composoting tag on the glass and turn off generate GI and maybe turn off generate reflective caustics. that should fly through on a mac pro

ahh, sorry, your running 10.5, there are reflective and refractive caustics in R11, although check the caustics tab in the main render settings.

the composoting tag you have on the glass should help with seen by GI unchecked like you have done.

also under the illumination tab in the glass material you can adjust the GI from there.

Post the file if you like and il have a look, could be something else

Has what you'v done made any difference?

i did some glass the other day as a test, this is in vray so doesnt help, but this renders in 5 minutes

Problem is that my HDR file has a size of 45MB..
So it's not included...
But I suppose you can test it with an other one ?

that does take a while doesnt it!!

i reckon first off, the Gi set to generate at 1250 isn't not helping, from memory with AR 2.6 if you go over 90-95 you will start to have big impact on render times, and its probably that whats causing the light to be overblown on the floor by the window, il let it render and then see if i can change it to match, adding an area light where the window is will help out,
you know your going to have problems animating that in AR 2.6 and not getting it to flicker, its possible but will need a bit of fiddling.

let me have a play with it,

The render take a while because of the plant I think...

this a little animation test (don't bother about the camera mouvements..) I did yesterday with even higher GI settings (took me 6 hours) to avoid flickering..

Thanks for playing around with it!

6 hours isnt that bad for that at all, and its really clean, goes to prove it can be done.
how come its gone up to over 2 hours a frame from that??!

im not 100% sure but you have fog enabled in the glass, could that be causing it?
