I have a massive issue with scaling my binded mesh.

I have a pretty decent enough rig i think and i made all its parts a child of a main controller. This accomplished 2 out of the 3 things i wanted it to do.

the main controller translates the rig and bind mesh anywhere i want in 3d space and it also rotates everything around brilliantly.

the problem comes when i wish to scale my rig and mesh. The rig actually scales up and down fine by itself but once i binded a characters mesh and painted weights the geometry does not wish to cooperate.

What am i missing here? Im still learning the ropes with cinema.

also i can upload the scene file if that would be more helpful.

Did you try placing your model in a null object and scaling up the null?

Try following the steps I posted on post #2 here

Replace step 3 with scaling the entire rig (using the top most null as 3D Kiwi said)

The skin deformer gets upset by scaling the rig generally (although this was improved in R12) so I find unbinding etc gives better results.

Cheers,
Brian

I tried turning off the skin deformer for the skin. I also have a set of gums that i bound and weighted so i turn that skin tag off as well.

my model along with some assets like teeth were already placed in a null object named "model01."

When i tried to scale that null only the gums scaled larger. Not sure why but the main body was not responding.

I must admit though, im not sure how neutralizing the skin deformer would help me since i imagine i would still need to scale the rig up to match the mesh and then possibly  have to re-paint weights.

I attached the scene file of a different character that was suffering from the same problem but his scene file was smaller which allowed me to load it on here

if anybody wanted to take a look at it.

same problem though, and same rig basically.

Works fine for me. You need to add a Null object at world zero coordinates that's a parent of all objects of the rig, switch to Object tool mode (not Model tool mode) and scale away. It works fine in R12 without needing to do anything with the skin deformers or weight tags.

The whole Model/Object tool modes is one of those Cinema quirks. As a rule of thumb if you are working with scaling and animation or rigs it's almost always better to use Object mode. It's not obvious though, because Cinema always defaults to Model tool mode which only scales the axis of objects. In my work layout I have the two icons swapped around to remind me

BTW please update your profile, I was trying to load your file in 11.5 here as that's what your profile says, but clearly you are running R12.

Cheers,
Brian

Doh! sorry about that mate. Will update now, thanks for the reminder.

Also thanks for take a peek at my file, seems to be working now. Guess Model mode and Object mode are still a bit confusing for me. Like I said, im still learning the ropes around here.

No problem, and yes, they are confusing to be honest, it's not just you  I've not seen an equivalent in other apps. Generally I work with Object mode 90% of the time as it's the best one to use for animation, you can't animate scale in fact in Model tool mode.

Cheers,
Brian
