Hi everyone. I've out done myself and produced an epic 1 hour 43 minute advanced XPresso tutorial on using Iterator nodes i.e. Hierarchy node, Iteration node, Tag node, Material node, ObjectList node and Selection node. Plus other nodes like Range Mapper, Condition, Compare and Distance are used. If you not sure what the Interator nodes do, they allow you to reuse XPresso on multiple objects, tags, materials etc. This allows some very cool things to be done.

This tutorial is not suitable for beginners and it assumes you have some knowledge of XPresso. MoGraph is used a couple of times throughout the tutorials but generally you can do most of what's in the videos without it. Any version of Cinema 4D from Release 8 upwards should be able to follow along.

Members can download the videos and scene files here.

The following are animations from the tutorials that I show you how to do:

Example 1 - Distance detection. When the sphere is within a certain distance of the cubes the Y axis size increases (same as above animation)
Attached File  Ex1.mov   536.65K   589 downloads

Example 2 - The material applied to all objects is being changed
Attached File  Ex2.mov   835.54K   394 downloads

Example 3 - Collision detection. If there's a collision the material applied to the cube changes
Attached File  Ex3.mov   392.57K   372 downloads

Example 4 - Landscape object polygons are made into individual objects then made to appear in sequence (MoGraph Fracture object required)
Attached File  Ex4.mov   582.3K   323 downloads

Example 4 Variation of above where objects in the hierarchy are skipped
Attached File  Ex4Skip.mov   475.77K   298 downloads

Example 5 Points on a spline are prevented from going past a certain point. The clever bit is making them return to their original position
Attached File  Ex5.mov   117.41K   356 downloads

Example 5 Variation of above except using points on a mesh
Attached File  Ex5Poly.mov   74.07K   323 downloads

Example 6 Spline points are made to stay in the same position as points on a deformed sphere
Attached File  Ex6.mov   447.12K   356 downloads

Enjoy :)

Thanks everyone. I had a lot of fun making this tutorial and learned a few new things myself. I have updated the first post to give each of the animation examples a brief description of what's happening.

Some of the examples I do replicate what can be done with MoGraph. It's just that these examples are good visual way of showing what particular XPresso nodes can do.

Cheers

LOL - I started off thing I would just do a tutorial showing how to use the Hierarchy Iterator node. Once I had done that I thought "Ah, what the hell, do 'em all".

Here's one of the example scenes modified to use Text. I've placed under a Symmetry object. Sort of looks like a mirror but it's not. The 2 Text object's points are stopping in the middle.
