Slow progress from me...as always.

I may not be good but I'm slow.

Managed to get some time on this today. Finding it slow going with only having one hand at the mo. Some great entries so far, I love the ideas coming through. Here's my update, working on detail to the base of the tower, will work on the top tomorrow.

Got a quick question regarding the use of plugins. Can we use c4d plugins such dpit to create plants and trees? I've not used plugins in the cafe challenges before and can't remember what the ruling is for them. I wanted to add some plants and trees and thought I'd check before going ahead and using it.

OK, after rendering about 300 variations of this, a couple more WIPs have arrived..

And now I've cut the tops out of them so we can have shiny blue lights, and there's landscapes and better clouds and a final view I like, I just can't decide on what the weather should be up to.

What do you reckon ? Dark and moody with black fog, or light and moody instead ?

Lastly, here's a cel - ultra high poly on purpose, as I am using individual polys to do the city lights and they had to be very small.

If in doubt, scream and shout.

OK, well thanks for the input, but I went dark in the end - have just got it as final as it was going to get...

Not often I find a scene that needs 8 x 8 aliasing, but these did...

Did this silver one, and then decided the texture was too large scale, and using MIP sampling, which wasn't helping.

so changed that to sat sampling, and dropped the scale a bit, re-tweaked the bump depth, and fixed the fog so it was more contrasty, and did better reflection things on the underside of the tower...

Beautiful images Cerbera... They come off as being so simple and abstract almost... Very nice...

Here's a wip of the dome at the top of my tower, however I'm not happy as the aplha is working towards the middle. I have 15 tree textures each created in the usual way with a pic in the colour channel, and a mask in the alpha channel, but as you can see a couple of trees in the alpha channel isn't working!! Is this because it's to much for cinema or my pc to handle? or is there something I've missed and need to check?

Cheers

Nice trees, JR...

Last one from me - just thought I'd try the classic blue sky approach with some pyroclusterings...

Hey, TheJimReaper, try cranking up the Ray Depth setting in the Render>Options tab.
That should get the rays shooting through your glass and all those alphas.

Problem solved, cheers smedley. I forget about those settings sometimes, I've got a lot of preset render settings saved so I only have to click on the one I think will best suit the scene I've created and away I go.

Just need to sort out some texturing, should just make the deaadline!!
