Hey guys (and gals),

I am having the most irritating problem and would really love it if someone could help me out! What I'm basically trying to is....well its hard to describe but the best way I can show you is with these videos:

It's the way the cloth/rubber type material opens and closes. I've tried over and over again with the Cloth and Belt tags and the object just doesn't collide properly and keeps stretching!

i've attached a preview render to show you what an awful mess I've made of it, and sorry for the speed and low quality of it!

If anybody could help with this, I'd love you forever!!

This is going to be tough!! I reckon you need to forget about using cloth and get the iris effect working by manipulating points, probably using morphing. You then get the cloth effect by using soft body dynamics and blend between dynamics and the recorded animation use the follow position and follow rotation settings on the force tab of the dynamics tag.

Good luck.
