Hello,

I have to model a foam rubber mattress and it should be flexible (soft body) for animation.

Pls see attached photo (white material). i do not have any idea how to model this. I think it's easy but i miss the right steps. I do not know how to get space between the cubes ed

Hope somebody can help me.

Thanks!

regards Robert

Easy way: tiles shader in bump/displacement channel

Still easy but takes some time: add a cube, set the subdivision to something like 20x20, select the top polygons, bevel with preserve groups unchecked, select all, subdivide (my guess is a value of 2), throw it under a hypernurbs.

Hi Tomo,
Thanks for the reply. The channel didn't work fine and the model part didn't work either. I know I did something wrong. Can you make a file for me??

Maybe i can make a cube cloner placed on a flat rectangle cube? group them?

Hi Tomo,

Thanks. I'm unable to open the file. Is it a C4D file?

Hi Tomo

I can open it. I was trying to open it with a 11.5 version on a other computer. Now This pc has R13. At the moment I'm rendering a scene, so I will give you feedback later on.

Hi Tomo,

Number one is okay|!

I want to show in a animation that is flexible. So I tried to press a sphere into the "foam" but Cinema collapse. I think the foam is to detailed for animation. Can We fix that

Hi Tomo

I have used the 3rd one now. Only at the point where the sphere is should the foam have collision. If you see my Cd4 file attached the collision is everywhere. In real the material is very soft. Only where there is weight on it there is collosion.

Do you know this?

hey robert,

try increasing the Stiffness to something like 20-30 and dumping to 10-30%... whatever fits best. You can play with bounce/friction as well.
