Parameter Dials & Editing Tools

Parameter Dials

When you select any body part or object in Poser 7 you are able to transform them by the Parameter Dials. The image below shows the parameter dials for the head. As shown you can select body parts or objects either by clicking on them in the workspace or by clicking on the triangle. Since figures are made up of many parts, Poser conveniently arranges them in a logical hierarchy.

So to make the head twist from side to side you just drag on the dial. If you mess up then you can either undo (where's the undo button?) or if you twisted the head a few actions ago and don't want to lose other changes then you can click on the triangle too the right of each dial. Here you can reset the dial to its default setting. There are also other options like limits and graph.

Editing Tools

You can pose your characters using the editing tools. Rather than try to describe each tool, I've made a short movie on some of the tools. Click on the tool icon in the image below and a short Flash movie will play showing the tool in action. (File sizes range from 1mb to 7mb and include audio)

The tools work pretty well but getting the hang of posing characters with either the dials or the tools does take some getting used to. That of course is one reason why you can apply a ready made pose otherwise you can spend a long time setting up your pose. To assist with posing there are few helpers like auto balance where as you move the character around it will try and maintain balance just as a real person would. There are other things like symmetry where you can copy the position of an arm or leg for example to the other side. Another one is where you can swap from left to right for either the entire body or just arms and or legs.
