Subsurface Scattering
By 3DKiwi
Here's a 15 minute introductory tutorial on using the new SSS (Subsurface Scattering) Shader in Release 13.
In this tutorial 3DKiwi digs out an old scene using the old SSS shader and tries to improve the rendered result (without success). He then moves on to copying the model and lights into a new scene and this time uses the new SSS shader and plays around with the presents and render settings. The improvement from the old SSS Shader to the new one is nothing short of stellar.

Animated Torus Rings
By 3DKiwi
Here's a short 10 minute informal tutorial in response to a question asked in the forums at C4D Cafe. One of our members posted a video with animated rings in the form of a torus and asked how to do it with Cinema 4D.
The tutorial shows how to create the torus, create the material using gradients in both the Colour and Alpha channels. How to animate the rings moving then how to skew the rings to make them appear to be a long continuous helix line.
The tutorial is recorded with Release 16 but users of older versions should be able to follow along without any problems.
This tutorial is hosted on Vimeo. Clicking on the download button will take you there. You will be able to download the original high res version rather than watching the low quality streaming version.
The download button also allows you to download the finished scene file (R16 format) Click on the screenshot below to play a video of the animated rings.
