Render farm for Octane?

Recommended Posts

  • Topic Author
  • Hello.

We have a large number of render jobs that we need to process fast and economically. We use Octane with C4D.

We used to outsource CPU-based renders from C4D/Physical to PixelPlow with very good results - it was fast and economical.

What are your recommendations on scaling the ability to process Octane renders?

Do GPU render farms warrant themselves?

Are we better off just adding more GPUs into our own machines?

If GPU farms are a good idea - which ones would you recommend?

    Thank you

There are no commercial render farms for Octane render because Octane render does not allow anyone but themselves to have a commercial render farm.  This way they have a monopoly on the Octane render farm business and can charge whatever they want.  Having a in house farm or using their farm is the only two options.

Having said that Octane as a render engines sucks in terms of quality and speed in comparison to Cycles or Redshift.  Both Cycles and Redshift do have many commercial render farms that support them because it's allowed.

It's true that Octane doesn't allow commercial render farms to use their license.
    There's another way though.

We have very neat GPU servers that we rent - 10x GTX 1080Ti on board. You get your own machine you can connect to via Remote Desktop and install your own software. You can transfer your Octane license to that machine for the time being.
Your system will be saved and stored so that you only need to set it up once and only you have access to it. The price is really good as well for that power -  OctaneBench results are about 1800 points :)

If you want to give it a go, please contact us or just send me a PM.
