Create a shaped bubble around an object?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to easily create a sort of bubble around an object. Almost think of vaccuforming. Look at the images attached, I want to be able to make shield bubbles around spaceships that have roughly the same shape as the ship itself.

Yes,

Put your object under a connect object that has the weld option off. Now create a sphere and change the mode to hexahedron, select the middle loop and disconnect it so you can change the shape to something similar to the images below. Now use the stitch tool to bridge the area in between and then use the Edge cut tool to make even spacing of polygons. (This step is just to get an even quad mesh, you can try any shapes that will fit your object).

Now add shrink wrap deformer to the new mesh and set the target to the connect object, and reduce the maximum distance to fit your object. Reduce the strength to 90% or something like that to fit your object with minimal distortions.

Now use current state to object and adjust the new mesh to make it look decent.
