Reflectance and specular confused?

Hi all, 

 

So I was following this beginner tutorial and everything was fine until I got to the second material. 

 

I have gone to create the material and mine doesn't look like the tutors here's what it's suppose to look like.

And here is what mine looks like not only can you see the difference in the preview Window but the settings have changed. He has reflection and specular and I have reflectance and no specular???

As you can see clearly different settings to choose from, I can't see the mix strength setting in reflectance can someone please help me thank you.

Any suggestions would be great as Im loving this new 3D program the power of it is fantastic.

Hi,

You probably have something lower than R16 that was the version where the specular was moved from the left-hand side menu to the reflectance channel. The second image you've sent of the reflectance channel has the specular in it. You just need to go to the specular channel in your c4d and make adjustments to fit your needs. Hope this helped.

 

Edit: I'm sorry I got it backward...the one in the tutorial has a version lower than R16 leading to the difference in the menu. I have attached here an image of the settings I did to get the look as in your last screenshot.

  • Thanks mate yeah after some research I did find out that this was the case. 

     

    So on this YouTube vid at the 6 minute mark how would I go about getting the "mix strength setting" ?

    It's at this point of the tutorial I'm lost as we are using different versions of Cinema 4D.

    In the newer versions, there is a separate setting called "Layer Fresnel" with it's own separate strength setting, in the lower part of the screenshot I sent in my previous post. Add fresnel to your texture from there instead adding an actual fresnel shader in it like they've shown in the video. Choose the fresnel that suits your needs best and change the strength from there. Let me know if this works...
