Can't Add New Surface to Material Node

Recommended Posts

Hey guys and gals - I'm having an issue lately where I can no longer add a new surface to my material nodes.. The "Add" button is completely grayed out and un-clickable

The catch is, this is only happening in ONE of my C4D scenes. If I create a new scene, the issue is resolved.

Any ideas what could be causing this problem?

Thanks!

Okay, so I just uncovered the issue (almost immediately after posting lol)

I'm using the Take system in this scene, and apparently I can only add new Surfaces to my Material Node when in the Main take..

I'm new to the Take system, so can someone break down the reasoning behind this functionality for me?

Takes are meant for overriding the parameters. You can use them to create endless variations of your scene. For example, you could have a "night" and "day" version of the scene. Here is a quick example with two takes acting on single material, they simply store different data.
