Fake Reflection Roughness (Blur)

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Here's the issue I have: I am trying to adjust the Reflectance channel so that the reflection is quite blurred (metal material) however if I just crank up the Roughness the blur effect comes out hella noisy. AA set to Best = a little less noise. Now it does work pretty perfectly if I crank up Sampling Subdivisions to 8 and Clamp Secondary to 11 but it's gonna finish rendering in June.

Any way to fake that blur effect without sacrificing precious render time?

There is a setting at the bottom of the reflection channel where you can choose to up the sampling for that reflection in particular.  This is way better as it's not upping it for the whole scene.  It still slows it down quite a bit.  If you want better render times with blurry reflections and GI definitely go with another render engine like Cycles, Redshift, Octane, Corona.

Thanks Fastbee!! Can't do Octane, Redshift and anything else that runs on NVIDIA as I am on iMac, with AMD Rad. ;( Just installed Corona, trying to figure it out now
