Create Cross-Program Friendly Model

Recommended Posts

I've got a CG question for y'all. I'm wondering about maximizing compatibility across programs. I work in C4D and want to create a model and textures that work across programs as much as possible. I would avoid procedural textures and have everything a bitmap applied with a UVW. If I exported an OBJ would 3Ds Max and Maya be able to relink the UVW textures properly?

If you unwrap your UV's, you will get the same UVW Coordinates, unless you uncheck the "Texture coords UV's" inside The Obj Exporter.

Good Luck

I recommend researching the different exchange formats and digging into the export options for those formats in C4D to identify any limitations that would need special attention before export.

Here is some info from Turbosquid to get you started: https://support.turbosquid.com/hc/en-us/articles/230092827-What-to-Expect-When-You-Import-Exchange-Formats
