hard surface practise heavily inspired from an online render

the render could be from a German guy but I don't remember his name or where I downloaded it, maybe he's a member here

This is a very cool looking render...good job. Only thing I would add to the materials are imperfections like dust, little scratches etc..

believe me I tried and I failed miserably every time, if I would know a good tutorial (better a video tutorial)

there is a free plugin but I never got it to work for some reason maybe because it's for an older C4D version than R19 (?)

what I did here was faking the edges in dark grey applied a lighter shader to it so that it looks something "worn out" sort of

do you know a good free tutorial for that ?

If you can pm that object (if you don't want to share it here) then I would like to try something. It shouldn't be that hard. Setting up right UV projection and then adding a layer of material on top of everything with mask applied.

thanks for the offer, Igor much appreciated  but if you do it for me is it rather simple to follow so that I can repeat it ?

I will upload version 2 of the mesh when I'm ready because this mesh is "screwed up a lot" ...

    later this evening

    working hard here

I will try to explain as simple as possible. It shouldn't be that hard!! :)

So the trick is to add additional Layer in Reflectance channel and to add a Normal Map, for that you need good textures (you can also change the strength of the scratches). I will PM you with the file because I cannot share textures around, but for this, I think its ok! Great set of textures you can find on Poliiigon.net

Also, you need to select Material tag in Object manager and set UV projection to Cubic, otherwise it will not look that good because you didn't unwrap the model, but Cubic projection looks decent enough I would say, so no need to unwrap the model but if you want more control over the texture or creating the new one than its essential to do it.
