Octane Wizz

Recommended Posts

Hi

Looking for a C4D operator who's a real wizz on Octane, specifically on material creation.

First challenge is making a material like the attached images, a lamp shade.

Ideally someone who is available for on-going Octane freelancing.

Thanks in advance

I'm surprised no one has responded yet!  I'm a little rusty with Octane, but I'm sure I could figure something out.  Do you need me to render for you or will you be incorporating it into your scene?

  • Hey @natevplas

I did get a couple of DM's so I think i have it sorted, but thanks for your kind offer.

Have you migrated to Redshift? Seems like there is a bit of a trend for that at the moment...

Oh, ok.  That's good to hear.  And yes, I have migrated to the warm waters of RedShift.  If you ever need RS materials I'd love to help you!

I hear you found someone, but I did this for fun anyway.  Remade the geometry.  Not sure if it's right.

The glow in the top part of the lamp shade in the first image seems to be coming from an external lamp.  The light inside would not make that part glow unless the light inside is a really strange shape.

The two original images uses two different HDRIs.  Both my images use the same HDRI.  This can be seen by the reflections.

My colors are also a bit off still.

  • Hey @Fastbee

That's very community of you to do that. I found a guy who made a really nice material, which works a treat. His knowledge of materials was wellll beyond mine.

Anyone interested, here is that material, my little effort to return the favour to the cafe.

Here is the shade with the same lighting as mine with the new mat.  He made it much the same way I made mine.

Here is mine where I changed the colors of the SSS to match his.  It's strange how octane does not have a material that can have a diffuse and a transparent on at the same time.  Instead they have to be mixed.  In Cycles any material can be made in a single material.  I guess it's kind of the same in that it's really a bunch of mats mixed together.

The color in a transparent material is connected to the Transmission channel.
