Modelling Cutouts or Holes

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I need some advice with modelling a hole on an object so i can put a screen in it and some nice rads,

at the moment i'm using a boole.. I've tried to make this without a boole but i'm finding it difficult..

any advice on how to do this the best way would be great..

thanks

Bool is not well suited for curved sufaces.

See my attempt.

Modelled from 1 piece of geometry.

You have to finisish top and bottom by yourself.

  • ok thanks that's great.. Did you just push the inner surface inwards to create that hole?

Nope. Started with lowest polygon object possible which is easy to adjust. Move points where the opening should be, extrude and smooth out. Couple supporting loops added.

I'm afraid what you suggest would give you very jagged outside edge around the hole. Try and see. Best way to learn from own mistakes.

You have 5 in the 'editor' field, not the 'renderer' field. Two separate settings allow you to work/edit on a simpler form and render at another level.

Edit: You also have two identical Boole objects at that third location.

  • Hi, I'm a bit lost, so normally when i go into sub d editor that's where i change the jagged edge, wherabouts is render field on the screen layout?

I use two booles because i have 2 separate top and bottom parts of the device.. middle one... I need these to have the same hole

It's on the Subdivision Surface attributes..right under where you set it to 5 for editor.
