Render speed

I was wondering why my render time was so long with so few elements in it.
I had a lot of elements in my project for which I checked the renderer and edited  to off.
Then I deleted the elements and the render time was incredible fast.
Is this a bug? I can't recall I had this issue back in R17.

Were any of these objects generators like Booles, SDS, Cloners etc ? They are still calculated even if traffic-lighted off unless their green cross is also disabled, which removes them from scene calculation. Could that be the answer ?

    That could be pre-rendering calculations. For example, if you have SSS on an object and set that to cache mode the SSS cache will still be calculated even if the object is not visible. This can take a long time.

     

    Ultimately you'd have to post the scene file though. Hard to say without having a look at it.
