Maxon Subscribtion Plan Discussions

Recommended Posts

This is great news and I am really surprised to see some of the negativity. I took a look at faq on website and it seems they did everything not to hurt existing customers. C4D Studio and Redshift under 100 for month is fantastic!

And to those who are complaining about this being a release without any cool features, have you seen Field Forces? It's like having a lot of X-Particles functionality inside native C4D. Check out Chris Schmidt's video to get a better idea of what they can do. (It starts getting really crazy around 38 minutes in, but you should really watch the whole thing for context)

My biggest fear was Adobe bought MAXON :)

Subscription seems as very good offer, especially with the redshift bundle. Not so sure about perpetual licenses, msa and all the concerns people brought up in the thread. Would be nice to get answers on those

Speaking of MAXON's site being offline, if this is a planned upgrade or a revamping of the site to correspond with announcements, why not have the new site already done and on standby, then just hit "publish" today? Anyone who got excited and wanted to learn more only got a big cyber hand to the face. Just my opinion of course.

The site is online now and has been for several hours. It was only offline for a few minutes before the announcement.

In fact, there's a very handy FAQ page on the pricing as well as the normal overview and new feature pages.

Does priority in tags still exist when rigging characters?

That was not something they mentioned in the character updating page. They mentioned better weighting tools though.

So... I bought C4D Studio in May.   With the Yearly MSA.

I could have got the new Subscription in a month for just above the current Yearly MSA cost !

Perpetual is now a lot cheaper than I bought it for so resale has plummeted ( but who the hell will buy it now anyway?)

We don't know what is happening with MSA moving forward -  Current Perpetual doesn't have cineversity?!?

We Don't know how much future perpetual upgrades will cost.

Personally I want my money back ( minus say 3 months subscription price ) and then to move onto Subs.

I feel I have been lied to and screwed out of 3K when I specifically asked my UK Sales guy and even the German MAXON if it's likely to go subscription as £3K+ is a massive hit for me ( Especially as the job fell thought I bought it for ) and a subs model would be a lot more affordable and easy to manage ( even as a billed annual 737.88 euros! ) for a freelancer.   The difference of 2.7K could have gone to a new machine which I need.

Also subscriptions are completely tax deductible.

Where is my upside?

I've had enough time to look it all over and watch Chris Schmidt's video, and I can say for certain r21 is a big disappointment. Bevels? Actually the bevels feature was flawed in the first place, almost like a bug in the code, all they did was fix a bug. I like the end cap option, but again, that just fixed a shortcoming. Volume additions (caching) were barely interesting, the fields feature is nice, but more of a refinement than anything new - I also have x-particles not so exciting to me. The subscription model is not smart. MAXON is not like Adobe (with Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator or Premiere). 3D work (real 3D work - the kind someone is willing to pay for) is VERY complex. I cant see dabblers willing to pay for a subscription forever. And if they do, they will likely let it lapse in short order. I think MAXON will lose money on this approach - C4D isn't Adobe. I think they have talked themselves into believing that if they offer a subscription they will get more people into 3D. 3D is not for 'everyone' - it is a niche market. Professional 3D workflows are getting more complex, not less. MAXON has made a serious error. Instead of investing time in making great new features, they've invested in a building a subscription service. Maybe next MAXON will think they are Apple and start producing TV content like Carpool Karaoke. Ha!

Ha. You're right. The page I got dumped on earlier was /maintentance.html and not the home page. Carry on and act casual.

Not sure what are you talking about but this is totally different system and impossible to do with the old one. New Bevel for caps is an amazing tool that can also be animated...you see what our guys did with it soon enough. Ill ask for the video so I can show you tool in action! :)
