Maxon Subscribtion Plan Discussions

I was afraid of the creative cloud subscription (adobe), and had the same reaction most people have here about the MAXON subscription. But I was wrong. In the end, as a professional using these apps, it really doesn't make that much of a difference. You just always have the latest version and so much more, and you miss that big obstacle of a huge price once.

I'm thrilled to see 'simple' things in the new release, such as copy / paste points and polygons, a denoiser, and from what I can read here, a faster f-curve editor.

Just got an email of my local distributor, saying I need to renew my MSA license. But do I? The new release is in September, with the new subscription model, so why should I pay 665€ for the MSA?

as far as my knowledge goes if you renew your msa before 31 of august, you get r21 and discount on subscription for the next 2 (i think) years... but better ask your distributor, they should know for sure.

I don't even feel like watching this year...Some of the magic is gone I guess...I always took pride in choosing C4D over maya/max 10 years ago. The program was different, the company as well. The users were kind of like cool outcasts.

There was also a sense of genuineness in MAXON but the new CEO's latest presentation was so full of marketing BS that I came to realize this era is now over.

The program is still damn cool but the love factor is gone.

This kind of mentally I simply don't understand. Do you realize that one person is not the whole company? We have so many passionate people, great working environment...we are great colleges and every one of us is determined to give you the best possible state of Cinema. We also feel angry, disappointed etc when things are not as we would like. The core of Maxon didn't change so Maxon still have heart and soul and that will only parish when we are gone but I doubt that will happen anytime soon...we want to deliver the best, but sometimes it's much more then just code and just making super cool features.

Here are some answers I got from EU MAXON that may clarify some things for long-term users:

you have several options:

  • You could extend your current MSA for another year (from September 2019 – August 2020). In this case you would get a permanent license of R21 in the beginning of September. Then you can decide to stay with the permanent license or to switch to subscription. As long as your MSA is valid we have a special offer for two years – you can switch to subscription for 959,81 Euro net (this price is the two year price) and we also check the remaining months of your MSA and credit this amount.

Please note that with the change to subscription the permanent license of your R12 will no longer be valid

  • You can start with subscription in September. If you order the subscription in September we can offer you the same like above
  • You can start with subscription in October or later – in this case we can offer you a price of 479,90 Euro for the first year. In the second year you would have to pay 599,88 Euro net
  • You can upgrade to R21 perpetual for 850 Euro net

Cineversity is part of the subscription.

If you want to add Redshift then you additionally have to pay 240 Euro net per year (so it seems that the amount you have to pay at the moment is a bit cheaper).

Same here.

Just got an invoice from my local distributor to renew the MSA, which will be active from 1-9-2019 to 31-08-2020, for the price of 665,50 euros.

Confused, as yesterday they sent me a mail that as from 30-July the current licensing with MSA had ceased to exist.

Same here. I guess Design Express is as confused as people here are ;)
From MAXON's faq though:

Quote

If you own Cinema 4D R20 and have an active MAXON Service Agreement, you can renew your MSA during the month of August. If you do so, you’ll receive an R21 perpetual entitlement in September and be eligible for discounted pricing on conversion to subscription.

So the offer us  a couple of hundred € for our license we payed thousands for. NICE.

Thats no offer. Stay with r20 for one, two or three years and then go into subsciption is a much, much better deal. Then you have two licenses one R20 license and on RXX renting license.

I actually don’t mind the subscription. In fact it may save money. I would have to pay for MSA every year to keep current even if I didn’t think the upgrade was worth it because skipping an upgrade was more expensive. Now I can keep my perpetual and skip the upgrade until one is worth while 2 maybe 3 years from now then switch to the subscription but I will always have R20 to fall back on. If I want to take a pause from the subscription and then pick it back up if needed.

As far as I can tell no, your perpetual license becomes invalid once you move from that license to subscription. (See Delphis' post just above)

The R21 becomes invalid. I think the R20 remains active

Goodbye MAXON.
When Adobe introduced software rental, I decided to keep using my perpetual Creative Suite licences but wait for other options to emerge. Over six years, Serif's Affinity platform rolled out compelling alternatives to the three Adobe programs I use (Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign). So I've switched and never looked back.
For my needs, Blender 2.8 with its improved UI will do. No need for a Blender Cineversity, since so many tutorials and affordable courses are available online

It´s the same with me. With the rollout of their "Creative" Cloud I stopped spending any Cent to this company. Meanwhile it are thousands of Euros, which I could spend in many other usefull applications. And I can´t see any Feature since this so called "Creative" Cloud, which is a must have. And Adobe introduced it 2012. That means: 7 years which brought no great advantage (OK - To be true: AE is faster than before). If I comprae with the last 7 years before they get cloudy - it´s a difference like day and night (there were tons of developments in all applications). I think, they knew exactly, that it would be very hard, to bring new killer-features into their mature Applications, which have reached their perfection. Things like making these Apps familiar (Same UI / Path-Handles / Layer-Behavior / ...) was never a target, Adobe had. And yes, I like Affinity also & I replaced Adobe with it in many cases. I think, they could only establish their Cloud, because they where a monopolist at that time. MAXON isn´t. And when I have a look to their new Pricing (nothing gets cheaper with it), the competition isn´t far away. And if I have to choose between MAXON and Autodesk because they are both on Subscription and the the price comes to be compareable... What do you think I choose? Also Blender becomes more and more powerfull and professional. Right.

I wonder how many of the R21 features were kicked ahead to (for example) R21.1 and R21.5 etc etc. If some chunky things appear in those it’ll make R21 itself a bigger release, and they must have a few things in the works.

That´s also the same, what Adobe did with it´s "Cloud".

 +1

the Autodesk Indi license is a huge problem for MAXON. And to be honest. I'm a little happy about it. I understand that they want to offer a rental solution to get new customers, but it was absolutely not necessary to peeved off the old customers like that.
