Fragments exploding everywhere

Recommended Posts

Hey

(see attached pictures)

How come the fragments fall the wrong way when the sphere hits the cube? I just want them to get pushed the same direction as the cube that goes through. The whole cube just kinda explodes :P

How are your dynamics setup? what is the collision shape? It is always easier to help if there is a scene file...

Could be that after your collision objects move through and push the middle chunks away, the structure then collapses down which would explain why they might fall in that direction.

Use moving mesh as collision shape (in dynamics tag), that will give you most precise results, but it comes with performance penalty :)

Yeah, that is doing the right thing, but your settings aren't ideal to show it to clearest effect. The blocks that fall the 'wrong' side do so after the sphere has passed them, and they bounce off the remains of the pieces underneath them, as we'd expect with those settings.

Here's a slightly tweaked setup, with decreased bounce, increased friction, and connections between the pieces, so it doesn't all collapse at once... As you can see, I am able to get them mostly falling the 'right 'side, even without changing collision modes, so this runs almost real-time in the Viewport... however for a nicer final result I would also recommend changing modes as @Hrvoje suggested.
