best way to have hand pick up an object

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I need to have a hand pick up a surgical scalpel.

I will buy a gloved hand model, and add bones to it.

But I am wondering how best to have the hand pick up/hold/manipulate the scalpel in such a way as that it won't "slide through" the scalpel, and will look fairly realistic in the hand as far as gripping it.

Any tips, or am I going to have to painstakingly fake it and keyframe everything?

thanks for any suggestions/pointers.

- Mike

Hi, What i will do in this kind of animation is have two objects one in the hand all ready in a grip pose, and the another on the table, and just animate the hide from render on and off.

and i will use old fashion key frame animations. The object in the hand grip should look OK unless you look at it in wire frame mode.

  • thanks guys, this is helpful.

I'm a bit worried about the changing of the finger positions on the hand in relation to changing a grip on the scalpel. I don't want the fingers to appear to go through the scalpel or anything.

Would that be just manual tweaking or keyframes as well, or is there some sort of dynamics thing I should be doing so the finger flesh presses correctly?

    thanks

I would use key frames, pose morph and tweaking if  a closeup realistic animations required.
