MAKE PREVIEW DOESN'T SHOW DOF

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am working on a previz, I am using a lot the viewport DOF and it looks great, when I try to make a preview using ALT-B the DOF is not there also some other effects/textures, I used the 3 types of preview and they give the same result.

Two pics attached

Any idea

Best

Which version of Cinema is this ?

But anyway, here's something to try, which works for Open GL Make Preview in R21, though I am unsure about other versions...

In the Render Settings, temporarily choose Hardware Open GL, and in the settings for that turn on DoF (it is off by default).

Now go back to your scene, do Make Preview and select Hardware Open GL as the mode, and you should find your DoF is there...

As for why it's not working in Standard Render, that is more puzzling. It does work in my tests. Could you upload the scene file so we can investigate further ?

Oh I see what's going wrong. In that scene, you haven't got Depth of Field loaded in your Standard Render Settings, so no wonder it isn't showing ! You need to add it from the effects drop-down there, because in Standard render, DoF is a (rather inferior) Post Effect...

This should work, but you'll get a much nicer result if you do your Depth of Field either in post in AFX etc, or natively in Physical Render, at the cost of some additional render time....
