Pulling on two cylinders

Hi,

I want to do a hand pulling on two or more long cylindrical objects and after certain amount of tension it would break. As if when you pull too hard on a rubber band or something like that. I couldn't find better reference to what I am talking about than this.

 

Any ideas in a nutshell how could I go about this?

Is it even in Cinema's capabilites? Or are there any helpful plugins?

There are only 2 systems in Cinema that support physical breaking / tearing (Cloth and Voronoi Fracture) but I don't think either are appropriate for this, so I think you'd have to fake it.

 

I can think how you might cheat a previously connected object breaking, with something like single-frame swap-outs with a pre-broken model, but the stretching might be more difficult. I'll be interested to see what everyone else suggests for this...

 

There is the topowire plugin by Merk Vilsson, which might be worth checking out, but I don't have it myself so don't know for sure it could do it..
