Voronoi Fracture on Collision

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm working on an animation where a beer bottle sitting on a table teeters around and then is launched at a wall (via an attractor and dynamics) and breaks into pieces.

Thought the breaking into pieces this would be simple with Voronoi Fracture but I'm running into problems.

  • I thought to use "trigger on collision" on the bottle rigid body dynamics. Doesn't work because it disables the other dynamics that should happen "immediately".
  • "Trigger immediately" causes the bottle to immediately break into pieces.
  • Cranking up connector strength, and then using xpresso or falloff to detect the collision sort of works but a) looks unnatural and b) when using multiple point generators to vary the fractured pieces, the connected pieces don't stay strongly together c) just doesn't work very well.

Is there really no simple way to trigger fracturing with more specificity?

This problem is making me feel very dumb. I must be missing something simple. All the information I can find shows a static object (like a wall) being fractured by a moving object.

Thanks for any help.

Use trigger by Xpresso with dynamics body state node 🙂

  • Aha, thanks — but won't that, like "on collision," ignore all dynamics until it's triggered...So it's all or nothing?

  • This seems to work -- switching "individual elements" from "off" to "all" using dynamics collision.
