MAXON & RED GIANT JOIN FORCES!!

Recommended Posts

This merger could be great, but it would be interesting if MAXON had already ironed out the Cinema 4D R21 new license concerns before this new merger. We still don't have a procedure to buy second hand R21 licenses and there's a lot of voiced concerns about the whole cheap rental but pay up-front.

A fully fledged 3D application will never buy a 3D 'lite' plugin - not going to happen!

It does seem to me as if MAXON are positioning themselves to look more attractive to be bought by Adobe. I don't want it to happen, but this merger makes no sense at all. I was excited after the Redshift buy out, this one worries me.

Element3D is not simply a "3D Lite" plugin. I'm guessing you never used it to say that. It's pretty much a high quality game-engine (like Unreal) inside After Effects plus a procedural animation system similar to Mograph. It's years ahead of quality in comparison to Cinema4D viewport. You should check it out. You can get high quality 3D renders in real-time with Element3D, something that you cannot in Cinema4D. Element3D has been used in Star Wars The Force Awakens and other big films.

As for not happening, MAXON just bought REDGIANT whose main product is an After Effects Plugin, Trapcode. So it's not farfetched at all that they could buy another plugin like Element3D then.

Won't happen

This idea is circulating around for 10+ years and with recent developments I hope it becomes even clearer that it won't happen. Details about this merger will be announced in January, it is a good thing and there is much to look forward too as with Redshift 🙂

I have yet to see what is so cool about the RS acquisition. For now all we we got are C4d noises+nodes (more a beta release than a production ready implementation).

Nothing  to rave about IMHO. It’s about time MAXON integrated it with C4D as a default with Mac support.

This is really good news.  Red Giant makes some awesome tools and I'm sure it will make C4D better.  I'm definitely thinking what Igor said "imagine the possibilities".  I'm not sure why there are so many that seem to think this isn't great news and a good match.  Compositing and post production workflows integration in 3-D apps offer a lot of innovative possibilities for sure.

Yeah.. I'm hopeful Redshift integration will make some improvements in 2020.  It definitely has been a bit dissapointing after the initial hopefuleness and excitement and their claim to bring complete integration of Redshift in Cinema 4-D.  There is just so much cool stuff that native C4D renderers can do that Redshift isn't compatible with....and I'm not sure if some of these features will ever happen now seeing how things are going.  But we still should see some good things happening... we need a fully supported c4d nodes and keep improving the Node API.

  • Guys, what you must know is that there are so much things that you usually dont think about and then you pressume something is better just becasue it looks better. But you totally disrigard engeneering side where things becomes so much more complex, then you have bussines obsticales you need to put into the mix etc.. Not every plugin or app can be easly adopted to the C4D enviroment. This was not a decision based on luck, but a lot of thinking and research. Its not that easy to just go and buy what you like or what you think it might work. Process is painfull, a lot of things needs to be taken into consideration, definetly not an easy task, but sometimes you need to give trust in people that leads you and thats it.  Just give a man a chance and lets stop this Adobe nonsense at least until its here, for which you will have to wait as I am sure its not gonna happen anytime soon or ever. You can say what ever you want, but Maxon never has been this open and Maxon never listen like they listen now (e.g. offline help). So way so much negativiry? Unfortunatelly, some hard moves had to be done, but as you can see Maxon already pushing hard into the future by INVESTING and hiring, not cutting people out, doesnt that mean something?

    EDIT:

And lets be realistic, if you ever had chances to be part of development team, then you should know how hard and complex thing can be and adding more stuff just adds more and more to that complexity. Development simply needs time, how much time we can get until people say its enough, I dont know, but after this merging, I can definetly see bright future and especially interesting. Simply because all companies pushing eachother to the limit and thats good for everyone!!

Wow! Do you think MAXON and Redshift can just click their fingers and make things happen? The merger was announced a few months ago, Redshift had a list of deliverable to achieve even before the merger unrelated to c4d and they're hitting each one. Redshift for Mac is on it's way but I'm sure it's no easy task. Maybe you don't realize that MAXON isn't as large as Apple inc. Things take time.

I was actually hoping to see MAXON follow Autodesk’s steps after their acquisition of Solid Angle and the quick integration of Arnold as their  new default tender engine.
I’m not a programmer and I have no idea of how long this type of integration takes. Maybe AD botched the integration, who knows...I’m a simple user and just noticed that competitors deliver more stuff and often faster. Look at where Zbrush was just 3 years ago...

C4D is still great, MAXON’s  communication is improving, but the program is falling short of several features. Meanwhile,  the  integration of RS is not completed yet and now this acquisition of Redgiant...Seems like  they might be spinning too many plates at once.
