Active Keyframes affecting Render Times

Recommended Posts

Hi,

When attempting to cloud render my project - I'm running into an issue which appears to be coming from Cinema 4D.

My scene is 7200 frames long - I'm using frame 6001 as a good representation of a standard frame for rendering.

When I send the file off to cloud render with all frames active and baked in dynamics, and ask to render frame 6001, it runs for hours without completing.

Yet when I send the exact same file with the frame range set to 6001-7200 in the Animation palette, it renders fine in 2 minutes.

This suggests to me that the render farm is having to think about something before starting the render - but what could this be?

The scene is fairly simple, all dynamics are baked, and some animation is baked to keyframes.

The cloud render provider (PixelPlow) say they are seeing no errors in the log and it must be an issue with C4D. I'm using Arnold to render.

Anyone have any thoughts about what could be causing this?

Thanks,

Tom

Its going to be hard to say anything without scene file. So if you could share the file, we would have easier time to catch the issue.

Unfortunately I can't share the scene file as my client has asked me not to share the animation ahead of the release.

If you have any tips for things to look out for that would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Tom

I would also ask this in the Arnold Community and indeed their support. I think I would suspect Arnold more than I would suspect Cinema of being the reason for this, but again, impossible to tell without Arnold, and the file.

  • I've managed to isolate the source of the issue.

It seems to be caused by a sweep NURBS which sweeps a spline with an animated pose morph tag.

This isn't baked out, so is it possible that Arnold/C4D is trying to simulate this on every frame before the frame to be rendered?
