Best way of segmentation on model

Hi Everyone,

 

I'm new to C4D. I'm looking for a way to do segmentation on a complicated model.

Specifically, I have a model with joints to control different parts, and I want to manually do segmentation on the model so that the polygon object can be separated without breaking the current set of the joints. Will it be achievable and what could be the best way to meet the goal?

Please update your profile to show at minimum what version of Cinema you are using. Answers are often version-dependent.

No it won't I'm afraid. As soon as you change the poly count by adding or removing segments you will break all the joint weighting and UVing in the model such that it has to be done again. Order of operation is vital in 3D work, and you NEVER start changing the model after it is rigged and UVd - indeed those processes should not even be started until the model is 100% complete.

 

Sorry it's not better news, but it's the same in any 3D software.
