Transparent face

Recommended Posts

I've got a really crappy model of a chair that I imported from 3D Warehouse.  I want to use Quad Remesher to correct the geometry, however, the plugin has no effect as the polys are transparent when viewed from the rear of the normal direction - images attached.  I thought it might have something to do with backface culling - but, no.  I have never seen geometry behave this way.  How do I correct this so that both side of the single faces are shaded and I can therefore use my plugin.  Thanks!

The mesh, despite being fairly hideous topology, is actually fine, as we can see if turn materials off.

However a bit more exploration reveals that your material tag on that object is set to Front, which given the Normal direction means it is only applying on the inside. Change that to Both as below, and all is fixed...

It's hideous, alright!  I never thought to check the material tag.  Thanks so much Cerbera!  Now I have to figure out right Quad Remesher isn't altering the topology.  Thanks again!

Can't help you with that yet - nearly bought it last week myself, but in the end convinced myself I wouldn't need it until I next need to deal with some god-awful client CAD mesh monstrosity 🙂 Please do let us know if you make it work, and what you did, because there will be a lot of people who will be using that, if not now, in the future once it is properly established in everyone's rescue workflow....

Quad Remesher works flawlessly most of the time.  I can't figure out for the life of me why it's having no effect on this geometry.  I would highly recommend you make the purchase.  I use it for manufacturer models in non-C4D formats that are highly triangulated.  Quad Remesher is a one click solution (at least it has been for me).  I'll most likely send this mesh to the developer.  Thanks again for the help.
