Texture values on channel parameters

Recommended Posts

Hi,

If I put a texture on a channel parameter (like "Roughness" in the Reflectance channel, for example), will it overlap the parameter value or will consider the value as a range?

For example, if I put a value of 30% in Roughness, and then put a noise from black to white as a texture. White will be considered as 30% or 100% of Roughness?

I think it depends on Attenuation mode.. First two : Average and Maximum work  like multiply function i guess, so having 100% Roughness and 30 % bright texture gives you the same result as 30% Roughness and 100% bright texture. For those two other modes you might want to check manual 😉

That one. So, (taking ref layers out of the equation for simplicity's sake) if roughness is set at 50% and you feed in a black and white map to the roughness map slot, then the white bits are going to be 50% rough, and the black bits are going to be 0% rough. So usually, if you are going to use a roughness map, then you want roughness set to 100% so you get the full dynamic range available.
