Disable plugin, not remove

Recommended Posts

I read once there is a way to disable a plugin folder so it doesn't load when starting C4D. It was possible by adding a special character to the folder name but I can't remember what was it. Any idea?

If you have added the plugin folder to your Edit-Preferences-Plugins search path then you can simply uncheck it in the list and the plugin will no longer get loaded when you next start C4D.

The plugins search paths was added to R20 I think.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I was talking about individual plugins, not the whole folder. For example I want TopCoat to be disabled instead of deleting it.

There is an older plugin called Plugin-Boss that lets you select which plugins you want  to load from within Cinema. Basically the only thing it does though is automatically renaming the folders of the plugins so they are no longer recognized by C4D.

Honestly, Topcoat has created more instability issues with C4D than any of my other plugins.  Learning the shader system is a far better way to go.  I purchaed Topcoat right after R16 just to get me around the new reflectance channel but that was a mistake.  Another mistake I made was to add it to my layout so it was active with each new release up until R19.  Every C4D crash I experienced was always root caused by MAXON to Topcoat.

It is no longer part of my layout nor do I load it into my plugin directory.  If anyone has any contrary opinion about its stability after R19, I would be interested to hear it (I did pay for it after all).
