Wrist axis problem

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I have been trying to figure this one out, but with no solutions.

The wrist control on my rig turns the wrist the wrong direction.

When I turn the controller up and down the hand turns left and right...

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Sounds like the wrist controller rotation axis is oriented exactly the opposite direction than the wrist joint?

This is not a character builder rig but a self built one right?

Oh I just saw that you uploaded your file -

I think I found the problem:

in the constraint tag on the wrist joint, uncheck the local rotation under the targets section. This will cause the joint to snap to the rotation axis of the controller and after you rotate it back it should behave normally.

What works even better is deleting the PSR constraint on the wrist bone and give it a parent constraint tag to the controller. The method with the PSR constraint gives me weird deformations when rotating too much

    Thanks for your advice!

when I swap out the PSR for the Parent I loose the connection(rotation) to the forearm joints.

Unchecking the the local rotation did the trick.

    thanks 🙏🏼 again

Hm that's strange, when I do it with the parent constraint everything works fine, all controls with all rotations

Yeah, but does the forearm joints work?

do they rotate with the wrist joint?

Yes, they do, at least I'm pretty sure, I don't see anything weird. Could you maybe upload another scene file where the parent constraint is not working?

    HippodasTamus:

Attached is the scene file with the parent constraint.

The wrist goal has been rotated -90 degrees.

I have set up some Xpresso for the three forearm joints to follow the wrist, but with the parent constraint its not allowing it.

It looks like all the joint follow the wrist movement. But I think you probably mean something different than I do
