Illusion: creating depth in a picture frame

Hey guys!

 

I'd like to create a picture frame through which the observer can see a room, but when you rotate the frame, the room is not there. Instead, it's just a thin picture frame. 

Think of picture moving wall paintings in Harry Potter, portals in the game Portal, the tardis  in Dr. Who,

Any suggestions on how to achieve that?

First of all, new Members is definitely not the right section for this 😉

 

Other than hat, this effect should be pretty easy. Render each of the scenes once with the same camera movement and then mask out the part of the image where you want the "content" of the portal visible.
