  • i've just fixed all the IK on my rig and now i want to copy the joint weighting from the earlier rig on to the new one.

Something for vamp to do..i hope

it doesn't really go into any detail in the manual/help

    i've tried a simple example,below,

at the moment i can get the weight from cube A on to cube B,

BUT its linked to the cube A joints not cube B's joints

is it possible to copy weights this way from rig to rig or am i misreading the manual?

    has anyone got any ideas?

    R10 mocca3

    cheers for any help

    mala ;)

  • from the lack of reply,i'm guessing its only possible to transfer a rigs weighting to another object, not to another joint hieracy...oh well was just trying to make my reweighting a little easier.

    cheers

I did not have seen this post.

But I can't help you out either.. I'm not that good with rigging..

And I never used the vamp tool as well. But as far I see it, Vamp is used for Transfer between objects only.

    Peace,

  • IT WORKS!!!

tried on my little test rig posted above, first

after transferring the weight and before deleting the target rig,

if you look on the weight tag for the target object both hierarchy are listed.

when you delete the target rig you are left with 1 hierarchy, the source i presume

if the 2 joint hierarchy both have exactly the same names, then when you move the source rig across to target object.the weight tag seems to assume these are what its weight list refers to

don't really understand it,but it works, gonna try and see if works with bits of rigs and play about

thanks you've saved me a lot of weight painting

    i owe you a pint

  • Sweet.. it does work for transferring parts of the rig

Just copied the weights across for the head area of my dog mesh,

You need to delete the joints you don't want from the source weight tag first,

Then clear the weights on the target head joints-before you hit the transfer button.

then just delete+swap the joints you need

the transfer is pretty accurate my dog model has 2628 points and 50 joints

it only messed up about 20 easily fixed points on nearest point method ..not bad

  • yes its a bit of complicated path,

but pretty much what i was hoping vamp could do,

opens up all sorts of possibilites and should make rigging a lot quicker

    cheers again for your help
