Skydome Images

  • Hi, I have just purchased a 360º panohead and I'm just testing it out so it's a bit misaligned. I'm going to make a collection of 32 bit HDRI, and 8bit JPEG sky domes. If they are any good I'll be offering some of them free for the cafe members as soon as they're ready. I just have to wait for the right weather, and sky conditions. Any input like a wish list welcome. I'll try to get a selection od stuff like clear day, cloudy day, sunset, night, inside car park. That type of thing.

Oh, and the bike in the ref image is my 2 year olds not mine. :)

  • I have a Canon 1Ds MK11 which captures at 18mp so when stitched the file size could be massive. I shoot in RAW format, then down process if needed. I'll have to do more tests and see what is most viable. :)

Hi res HDRI's would ALWAYS be welcome.

How much did the camera set you back? Can you only use it to do 360 degree shots, or can you use it straight too?

  • The camera body alone cost me about £5,000. The lenses are £1,000 to £2,000 for the L range (pro). I have rigged it to a new 360º tripod head to capture sequences at various increments to create spherical outputs. Can't wait to see how they look in C4D. :)

  • Here's a low-res from a car park roof. It's for the sky more than anything. I also shot one inside the basement but haven't made the spherical 360 of it yet. I'm trying to create the HDRI now and will keep you updated with progress. The hi-res is 7000 px X 3500 px.

EDIT: Do you hide behind a railing or something to stay out of shot of the 360 degree images? laugh.gif
