Hi Cyclad.

I have a G5 8gb ram 4 x2,66 ghz

BTW making water made my ram usage go above 3500 for the first time.

5600 used on 10.4.11.

Can't do a tutorial right now,but here's what I found so far.

My first tests turned out funky but just to blobby.(see attachment)

This works well for Lava, paint blobby stuff.

To get sharper results there's a few options that seem to work together.

When adding more particles ,your flow of water will become fatter, blobbier,

*Increasing the speed of the particles can make it thinner, particles will be further apart from eachother.

*Speed simulates water better,as slowness will also add to the blobfeeling.

Stop your animation somewhere halfway and play with hull value/subdivision in metaballs.("show objects" active in emitter)

it takes a few seconds to update in my viewport.

You can make the particles melt more/less into eachother;thereby making the flow again fatter/thinner.

*I use the deflectors to keep the particles together,I bounce them together in the direction I want.

This proces is done with "show objects" turned of in the emitter settings to avoid viewportlag.

Some particles bounce away ,I found the hardest part to keep them all nice together.

My whole scene is placed in a hdri dome, wich is made invisable through a compositing tag,it adds a great deal to the waterfeel though, as it is still seen in the reflection of the water.

Spheres were used for the emitter at 3 segments, make them small >radius 1

Hope this helps some.

2 more things .

Speed variation in Emitter will also change your flowfeel ,as the particles will flow at a more uneven distance from eachother

.

Flows 2 on this page was done using 1500 particles, not more.

The file (water.zip) attached only uses 500.

Maybe this is a good example.

If you increase to 1500 particles you'll notice the water becomes much fatter.

Turn up the Hull value in the metaball (from 69 to 150%) and you can easily fix this.

This is basically the tric.

Wow great insight, I have a question how can you make the water mover another object like push something around with the water?

I got nice results with the standard emitter and metaballs.

Have a look.

Sorry, couldn't resist this with the title of the thread. Do you find a couple of pints of lager helps? How did you contract metaballs?

Seriously, particles with metaballs are a good alternative to Realflow.

I have to agree with steve I dont think I ever would come up with metaballsand emitters.

Hello, very new to the forum!

Nice to be here.

I download the file water with metaballs or thinkings particles from johnjohnson. An excellent project which i was looking for. Thanks for that!

I wanna ask if anybody knows, i wanna feel in a glass of water in that project with metaballs and TP. In this project the water just falls. (Don't wanna use Realflow)

Mr.John here use deflectors and expresso. I'm not very familiar with expresso.

Can anyone help me with that?

Thanks in advance
