Projection Man Workflow Example?

  • Anyone try to follow the Projection Man work flow example in the help file?

    Either I'm just plan slow or it doesn't work the way it's shown in the help file . Frankly I am a bit surprised there is nothing in the documentation that shows how to actually use the program as it is described in the version 11 new example at Cinevesity.

    The program comes with a very simple tutorial showing a basic camera push in. But the work flow and the big promise of Projection Man is all about combining multiple camera projection angles to avoid texturing anything but the polygons that show on the camera, Ie combining multiple camera projections so you can not only push in but rotate your camera or move it laterally.

    Just wondering if anyone else is having difficulty and if not perhaps you could share your findings, because I am stumped.

    Hi Alan. Refreshing to see that I'm not the only one struggling with the example from the help file. I can do the one in the Quickstart manual but that's pretty uninspiring.

  • what is the part your having problems with (havent gone through the projection man manual but have played with it a bit)

    i think its better to play with it first before you try and use it the way others have (because they could to it the wrong way "not saying they have in manual")

    The problem I'm having is creating a second projection camera where you have overlapping texture maps being projected on to the objects. There's a conflict with the alpha mapping.

  • Indeed. It seems as if there a missing steps in the example or it's just glossed over to the point that it's difficult to follow. At least I'm not alone in my confusion.

    Perhaps Rick Barret can help us?

  • Okay I got it to work on a simple cube. I'm going to retrace my steps and see if I can't generate my own how to and post it here.

  • im not sure if im getting what you are doing.

    so if the following isnt what you mean could you explain the steps you are doing (or i might have to have a look at manual laugh.gif )

    to create a second pro cam (after the first one)

    1)first create the second cam (same as you would any other cam)

    2)then in the projection man attributes drag the object from first cam heirachy to the new pro cam you created

    3)a window pops up (load bitmap)

    that should be it

    if im not getting you problem then please explain spoton.gif

    I don't see anything in the workflow example about loading a bitmap. In that example coverage renders are generated.

    Attached is the example in question.

  • do you have PS?

    because at that step (Camera... / Coverage Render.

    ) it renders then opens PS and opens rendered image

  • after going through the example i think there is a bug with the alpha.

    when i did it and used an alpha the alpha acted wierd. (the alpha showed kind of then disappeared and went all white)
