Zbrush Displacement map problems

  • Hey guys,

    Ive UV unwrapped a squid model im working on and once I bring back my displacement map from zbrush im getting weird stretching. Heres what im doing:

    - unwrap model

    - export obj

    - import to zbrush

    - morph target

    - divide 4 and apply rough alpha texture on the area i want to test

    - back to div 1 and switch my morph target

    - create displacement map

    - back into cinema 4D

    Any tips? The only thing I can think of is I screwed up my UV's yet Ive re unwrapped 4 times and I still get the same results. Thanks,

    This happens because of the round geometry option. Internally this is calculated the same as a HyperNurbs object and you will get some awkward looking UVmapped textures that stretches. In the HN object there's an option to change the Subdivide Uv's to Boundry or edge which results in a proper mapped texture. I changed this for you and enclosed the file, but I get some strange Phong issues. This might be the displacment texture, but I am not 100% sure.

    I don't know if this is the best way to fix this, but it might help you allong.

    Also remember that the displacement uses some sort of hypernubs and if you hypernurbs it yourself the subdivision will go through the roof, so try not to overdo it.

    Are you using zbrush goZ? If so I donb't know..

    But if you're not have you remembered to flip your texture once back in cinema?

  • Double dope it worked! I still don't understand the differences between the three hypernurbs options but "boundary" solved my problem. So essentially if I uv unwrap on a low poly object and then apply a hypernurbs, sometimes I get stretching because of the hypernurbs settings? thank you for the help,

    Yes, while applying an UVmapped texture to an Hypernurbed object this effect might occur. I looked in the manual for the Displacement settings but all the options presented didn't make a difference. But once again, I don't have any Zbrush knowledge, so there might be a better way to solve this :thisrocks:
