Need help please_ Creating an animated torus

  • Hello,

I have been trying to create the first animated torus in the video (the first 18 se) for a few days, yes, I know!

I have used "Mograph" and torus polygon and also created it with two circle splines.  And that is where I stop.  The creation and animation of the diagonal loop lines is where I get stuck.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Not quite what you're after but try playing around with the projection i.e. use flat mapping instead and rotate the projection.

    Hope this helps.

  • Yes, Thank You!  Looks very similar to how I want it to behave, I'd still like the diagonal rotation of the lines... Would you be willing to make a short tut on this?  I will try to reverse engineer to better understand it, I'm very inexperienced.  Would love to have a tutorial on it, or an outline of the steps, please... :-)

Thank you again for taking the time to read and respond to my "help please"!

Marjang thanks for pointing out that gorgeous video!

And 3DKiwi your texture solution is really clever! Way to go.

Now my brain is ready to explode working on a solution for the animation of the colored balls and that initial spiral helix.

    What eye candy.

  • teknow, thank you for your attention.  Let me know if you find an animation solution.  This would be a very nice project. I will post my result if I get anywhere with it.

I'm wondering if it can all be done in C4D at this point but I'm early into it. Some effectors do work on U and V coordinates such as the Formula effector but so for no animation like in that video but other motion.

I so hope that this can be done in C4D.

I think it can be done with a custom formula in the Formula effector but so far I cannot come up with the correct formula.

Here you go. I reckon this pretty close to the video. All I did was skew the UV's.

    Beautiful

You really know your stuff 3DKiwi

I am not clear on how you did it however. How do you skew the UVs?

And do you think that the colored sphere animation was done with textures or how?

  • Thank you, 3DKiwi!!  This sure is the replica.   I think it would take me a year to figure out how you did it :-)

Do you teach any classes?  Would you be willing to teach me online?  I have some fundamental questions and I feel you may be the right tutor.  Let me know if this feels aligned for you.

THANK YOU for your generous help!

    I get it!

Here's a great tutorial for UV novices such as I:

3DKiwi how do you think the sphere animation was done?

I've recorded a mini tutorial covering how I did things. Give me an hour to get it uploaded to Vimeo.

Sorry I don't teach any classes or do one on one training. Just watch all of my videos!!

I'll post back here once the tutorial is available on Vimeo.
