Altitude lines with splines

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm stuck with a project. It's a plane that takes off.

I need 2 things:

-  a ribbon that follows the plane / path (check )

-  altitude lines below the plane  (not check)

My setup (see image):

-  I made 2 instances of the original spline

-  Extruded the spline via a Loft. But this can't be animated progressive.

I have one solution:

-  Reveal the Loft via a boolean. But I'm not a huge fan of it.

Question:

Is there a way of animating a Loft? Or is it possible to extrude a spline in a single direction?

Optional:

It has to be dynamic. So I have to change the path of the plane.

No, but you can animate the splines within it if that helps you.

I would have thought a tracer or 2 would be useful here, in conjunction with the loft.

I don't know what you mean by 'altitude lines' - please explain further.

The dotted lines in the picture.

    Oh OK, thanks...

Do you need them to be dotted / dashed is the next question !?

Not necessarily. Do you have an idea how to approach it?

Not yet, but I am giving it some thought ;) In the middle of a big modelling job, but let it percolate in my head for a while and I'm sure I'll think of something ! Or maybe someone else will beat me to it ?! :)

I may be over simplifying this, and I have just got up, but would it be possible to just have a long stick / spline / cylinder attached to the plane ( like a kids toy on stick ) going down thru the floor, and as the plane flies along you just reveal / enable it at certain points, angle need to change in relation to plane but some sort of constraint could probably do that, tho Im not too experienced with those.

Just a thinking out loud moment :)
