Paltry, I know! Can't wait to get my hands on XP4 and crash my computer right away.

Meantime, here's another measly 2M particles!

  • I'd like to say third time's the charm, but these are way too much fun to work on, so I can't make any promises...

my first redshift project :) tried to squeeze in as much as possible to learn a lot at once, blurry transparency, volumetrics, fog, displacement, SSS... the only thing i had to fake in post were the underwater light rays, couldn't get them going in the render, the water just swallowed every light ray that hit the surface. any suggestions how to achieve that in redshift?

Fun render! I’m still learning, so can’t help with your rays.

  • @everfresh nice! Looks great.  How fast did it render out?

RE: water rays, I think your body of water (presuming it's a displaced cube or something along that line), is effectively negating the existence of fog in that space, so there's no longer a volume for the light.   Maybe try playing with volume scattering for that water material and with caustics.  Otherwise, you may indeed need to fake it in post.

The XPerimentation (wink) continues. Went for a faux-pixelated theme here.

And the slightly  longer video version:

    thanks :)

@nerv the render took 12 minutes, but that's mostly because of the shallow SSS on the croc in combination with the displacement. i had to crank the samples for the SSS up to the insane amount of 8192 to get rid of fireflies. without SSS it renders in around half the time. and yes, you're right, the water is just a displaced cube. i tried getting caustics going, but had no luck... maybe i'll make a much simpler test setup and play around with that, i'm sure it's possible somehow.

  • And quite possibly the last one in this "series" before I move on to other things...
