  1. Simple question about support cuts...

    I have been wondering if I've been creating my models starting with too little geometry. Maybe that's the main problem.
  2. I have this same problem with so many models, and I just can't seem to wrap my head around solving it. I created a simple scene to demonstrate. I have this chess rook, and I want to put it in a subdivision surface, but when I do, it wrecks the top of the model because the edges at the top don't stay tight where I need them to. But if I make the loop cuts to tighten them up, it wrecks the rest of the model. I run into this problem all the time. Any advice would be very helpful.
  3. I don't work with Bezier splines very often but when I do I always have the same frustration. When I want to create a curve, I click and drag out the curve, and then the next point I draw is automatically also a curve. Why doesn't the pen go back to drawing straight lines after I drag out a curve?
  4. This is the first draft of an album cover I'm working on. I'm reasonably happy with it, but there are definitely a few issues. The neon looks really fake to me. Something with the reflections on the outer glass I think. The scene is lit with an HDRI and a couple other lights. Also wondering why I'm not getting more of a pink glow on the wall. Any other help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

    Is there anyway around fixing this pinching on a sweep nurbs other than making the sweep object (circle) smaller in diameter? I'm making some neon sign lettering and I don't want the letters to be really skinny.
  7. Wrapping Beer Cans in Plastic

    Yeah, I think that's what I'm going to do. Thought it might be fun and easy to use some kind of deformer but it's just a headache.
  8. Hey guys, I have a client who just needs me to take a few beer cans and make them look like they are shrink wrapped in plastic (like the attached). I figured this would be really easy but I can't seem to get it to look right. I've tried using the shrink wrap deformer and the collision deformer. Anybody have a tip that might help me out?

    Yeah the booles are dragging my system really badly. I'm actually trying to use a material as we speak. Nothing about that is proving to be easy either. I guess I'm going to try an unwrap the sphere and then place the puzzle pieces in Photoshop, and then use the map in my transparency channel. So far I'm still having some problems. To make matters even more interesting, the sphere, which is actually a light bulb, is transparent :)
  11. Cutting out projected spline

    Yeah, ugh... I'm modeling jigsaw puzzle pieces onto the surface of a sphere. I don't think I have the surface modeling skills to do that without a boole.
  12. Is there a way to take a spline and project it onto a curved surface, and then have the curved surface be transparent or "cut out" where the spline is? I trying to do this without an extruded spline and a boole, which is how I've been doing it.

  15. I always seem to get these weird shadows on my backgrounds that I think are caused by area lights. I tired a bunch of stuff with compositing tags to get rid of them but no luck. Anybody know how to fix this?
