    If anyone is curious, just managed to recreate this — pretty darn close to the original — with layered ramp_rgb and checkerboard shaders driving displacement in Arnold.

    That's what I thought too, but it still can't make heads or tails of it. The part he's referring to is when he suggested to use a circular spline wrap to make the bell from smaller cloned segments, but I can't figure out how that translates here. Is it possible that the plane needs to be cloned and then wrapped around a circle? Somebody has been drunk tutorial writing...

    Thanks for your thoughts! The wrinkled edges are only effecting the hanging cloth portion of the jelly, not the bell itself. What you've described is what I surmised, too, but the description in the guide is throwing me off: What is the use of the spline wrap? Maybe I can just attempt this without the (seemingly overly complicated?) method they've written...

    Hi — long time reader, first time poster. Hope somebody can offer some insight into this technique. I've been attempting to make a jellyfish ala this: https://www.3dartistonline.com/news/2017/03/photoreal-nature-tutorial-render-a-jellyfish-scene/ I'm good on all of the techniques except Step 6. Can't follow how these procedural wrinkles are being made. Any chance somebody could help break down what's going on here? Thank you.
