  1. As a former Softimage user I do have take a little exception to this. Besides the comfort level there are many things XSI excels at. Although I love C4D for its own reasons...it does not have any feature comparable to ICE. Softimage got a lot right.. and I think to this day unbelievably the viewport of Softimage is still faster for animation and playback. The core of the application seems programmed in a way to offer much better animation performance. I still go back and model in XSI sometimes. Go to SI-Community and look at the massive resources section to see the power of this software. Cinema 4D was never powerful enough to be a complete Softimage replacement.. only Houdini.
  2. Back in my younger days I did a fair share of midi control real time in xsi which was really fun stuff, xsi had amazing support for devices and you can have the timeline playing and have all these things going on. brekel kinekt face to do face capture was cool. Having it real time may not be the most useful but it a lot of fun and could see your seen interact with mograph. I wish they would just take it the next level and create a real time input plugin to control whatever you want in Cinema 4-D as you are moving the ipad around, tracking objects, etc. not just face and rigs, but be able to easily get all data from depth camera and ipad pro sensors into cinema 4d to control whatever you want. Making it very well integrated and fast in Cinema 4D that would be pretty cool. Still cool though.. now to just figure out how I'll get an Ipad pro someday.
  3. that's too bad. I have two dual x5690 nehalem machines that are still pretty capable machines. One is still my main GPU rendering machine and I can't use Q-Tile Pro which I bought for Redshift/Octane use and I can't use the HDR Lightstudio R21 plugin. This AVX requirement is really starting to hurt now, but I guess it's to be expected and I'll be able to save up enough money for a new PC one of these days.
  4. given the lack of r21 features and any sub release so far and glacial pace of development and subs I can understand your skepticism. I still have some hope left for a bit of innovation coming our way, actual changes and development to make Redshift work better in c4d, and integrate red giant tech in cool ways, but I must admit my optimism is fading more every day. Especially given all the aging parts of cinema 4d that haven’t been touched . When that Uv tweet was made a few months ago...who knows but nothing more happened, so you are just starting to develop this it seems now? What has MAXON been working on the past five years? Just the core. There are just so many things left behind. And I’m very bitter about the lack of node python and disjointed state of nodes with xpresso and rest of software
  5. This looks awesome! I’ll most certainly be a customer as long as the price is reasonable (i.e. not a subscription) but the ominous “pricing” on the site has me worried.
  6. There is no way I would ever give up my perpetual license that's for sure for 2-3 hundred in savings. MAXON's treatment of long time studio customers was ridiculous, but at least they did a good job with the portal. I am liking the ability to easily move between multiple computers and have everything there how you left it. The way forward for me probably is to get a new subscription, which might be a long while. Let's hope they can convince me with awesome new features and their development speeds up. I'm still dissapointed they didn't get more in R21..integration of nodes with the rest of the app, xpresso, python. There is a serious disconnect with that stuff, but I'm relatively happy and still here. They could have so many more customers if they had chosen more reasonable pricing... like the yearly price but paid monthly or 12 month contract would have been pretty reasonable for a lot of hobbyists I think. The true monthly cost is just too much.
  7. Thanks! looking forward to checking it out
  8. I hope Team Render stability is improved and people are reporting bugs/problems. I haven't used it yet, but plan to soon and will see I guess how it works for me.
  9. Yeah.. I'm hopeful Redshift integration will make some improvements in 2020. It definitely has been a bit dissapointing after the initial hopefuleness and excitement and their claim to bring complete integration of Redshift in Cinema 4-D. There is just so much cool stuff that native C4D renderers can do that Redshift isn't compatible with....and I'm not sure if some of these features will ever happen now seeing how things are going. But we still should see some good things happening... we need a fully supported c4d nodes and keep improving the Node API.
  10. This is really good news. Red Giant makes some awesome tools and I'm sure it will make C4D better. I'm definitely thinking what Igor said "imagine the possibilities". I'm not sure why there are so many that seem to think this isn't great news and a good match. Compositing and post production workflows integration in 3-D apps offer a lot of innovative possibilities for sure.
  11. This would be a pretty cool script and could have some nice potential features. For jumpstarting ideas and getting your scene sort of pre-organized. I would definitely be interested in something like this too.
  12. I feel like compositing is a core aspect of 3-D and I sure hope MAXON isn’t making decisions based on Adobe but their product improvement as a hole. Lots of people I would imagine don’t like creative cloud, want nodal composting, but nuke is too expensive and fusion is being run by Blackmagic and questionable decision making. But yes I’d be very pleasantly surprised
  13. Cinema 4D with a built in compositor is my dream too! Igor this sounds good, I guess we'll see but we haven't seen anything to prove this yet. Right now I just want a new release with bug fixes, and Redshift working with C4D nodes in R21... like the stated R21 feature, the node API. It's nearing 3 months since R21 release.
  14. Certainly glad to see this but I can certainly understand how this looks given the lack of updates and improvements to current technology and workflows. Let’s hope development picks up. I’m sure they are aware.....it’s just very slow going. Hopefully Redshift support for c4d nodes soon. Node third party api was one of the main reasons I renewed my MSA to get R21
  15. This is stated on their website. I would like to know how to accomplish this too. "With the Trace Multi-Ray node you can generate advanced shading effects like ambient occlusion, blurry reflections, rounded edges and more"
  16. Uh Yeah...I'm sure I could think of some things. There are many ways Xpresso could be more powerful.. just go back and look at all of Softimage ICE and the many custom nodes users made over the years. You have a plethora of info to pull from.
  17. Yeah, but this isn't a new feature. This is a feature that was promised and wasn't delivered. All I know is the confusing information in the Redshift Forums. It would be an atrocity to not have promised feature of R21 .
  18. Not having a huge feature ready at release.. the node API is dissapointing, but I just want them to get it right. I can tell you if compete node spaces API and Redshift compatibility doesn't come as a free update to R21, It would probably immediately make me never use Cinema 4-D again. That's the main feature I upgraded my MSA for. I have faith that MAXON would never do that.
  19. mine isn't working either. it worked yesterday. It says no user account was found. this isn't good.. they better get this fixed soon.
  20. I love Cinema 4D but honestly I may have looked elsewhere if they hadn’t bought Redshift. R21 is nice but the lack of a big much needed feature or two is really disappointing. And the lack of any respect for their Studio MSA customers during this transition....but I still renewed and now I just want to see development pick up for both C-4D and Redshift and the “seamless integration”. There is just so much untapped awesomeness there. And yeah I sure hope they do release some big long awaited features.. I think it would help everything. I still can’t believe xpresso hasn’t been updated. Development needs to pick up.. I don’t even care if I don’t get the features for awhile. Will be interesting to see how I’m feeling next August
  21. I'm certainly not happy about a lot of things about all this, but time will tell. I'm not throwing MAXON with Adobe just because they went subscription. Maybe I am too hopeful, but I think development pace will pick up and good things are coming. R21 is seriously lacking in features that I was sure would make it into this release. If they don't make it in soon, then I may be looking at other options. All these changes need to be good for development. MAXON is not Adobe and I'll keep believing it hopefully for quite awhile longer.
  22. You shouldn't have to renew to get R21 though. You are good to go. Any active MSA on the release date will get perpetual R21. You won't be able to renew you MSA though in March. since new MSA's are dying tomorrow. That's how I understood it.
